In Bloom

The Film

Off the beaten path and far from the furniture capitals of Milan and High Point, two women have built a designer woodworking business and a life together, on their own terms, in the heart of Indiana. They work as if at play, and they document their process, their relationship, and their growing community, watching it unfold into a life beyond their wildest dreams.

Their approach to their craft and their aesthetic signature is just as unique and unexpected as the world they’re manifesting together with their tight knit community in the foothills of America’s Heartland. This is the story of Audi Culver and Ivy Siosi of Siosi Design in Bloomington.

Field Notes:

We first came across the work of furniture makers Audi Culver and Ivy Siosi of SIOSI Design on Instagram. Their use of contrasting wooden inlays creates a distinct quilt-like pattern across the supersized wooden panels of various tree species that have become the hallmark of their furniture. This quilting style evokes a feminine quality into their sculptural forms, which was a subtilely powerful note to emphasize the fact that these two women came together and built a business in what is often considered a man’s environment: the wood shop. Together they formed a furniture studio and a quiet, creative life together in the heart of Indiana, where we were connected with them while working on a travel story about Bloomington. We were inspired by the unique life they’re carving out for themselves, in an unexpected place.
